Indian Radio Science Society (InRaSS)

  • In July 2016, following members of the Indian National Committee of URSI (International Radio Science union) met and resolved that there is an urgent need to register an Indian Radio Science Society (InRaSS) for furthering   the cause of Radio Science in India, making a bid for holding the Asia-Pacific Radio Science Conference and other progressive measures to disseminate Radio Science in India and neighbouring countries.
  • The members present on that occasion were:
  • S.Ananthakrishnan, Amitava Sen Gupta, Animesh Maitra, Debatosh Guha, P.Janardhan and R.Paulraj. They agreed to the formation of the Indian Radio Science Society and form its Constitution, Memorandum of Association, etc., following the general practice in many other societies like the Indian Astronomical Society /Indian Physical Society, etc.
  • Accordingly, the following sections were made:
  • Memorandum of Association
  • Rules and Regulations
  • Bye-Laws concerning management and funding of the publications
  • All these were circulated among INCURSI members.
    • The main objectives of InRaSS is to disseminate radio science in India and neighbouring countries and foster excellence in radio science among young scientists/engineers who choose any aspect of radio science in their career. Radio science encompasses a wide area: namely, Electromagnetic Metrology, Electromagnetic Measurements and Standard, Fields and Waves, Radio-communication Systems and Signal Processing, Electronics and Photonics, Electromagnetic Noise and Interference, Wave Propagation and Remote Sensing, lonospheric Radio and Propagation, Waves in Plasmas, Radio Astronomy, Electromagnetics in Biology and Medicine.
  • Among many things, InRaSS will be interested:
    • To hold scientific meetings for presentation of original papers, review talks, etc.
    • To popularize Radio Science among the educational institutions and in the general public of India by
      • Arranging lectures on all aspects of Radio Science
      • Striving to include Radio Science courses in the School, College and University curricula.
      • Cooperating in conducting symposia, schools, etc.
      • Encouraging amateur radio scientists, hams &
      • Taking up any other suitable activity.
    • The founding members elected unanimously the following to be the first office bearers of the society:
    • S.Ananthakrishnan as President
    • Amitava Sen Gupta as Executive Secretary
    • R.Paulraj as Treasurer
    • The society has been formally registered with the Registrar of Societies as below:
    • InRaSS has already started taking vigorous steps to be involved in conducting the Asia Pacific Radio Science Conference in March 2019 in the India Habitat Centre during March 9-15, 2019.
    • InRaSS will also be involved in other Indian meetings, in the meanwhile, plans to hold a workshop in NEHU, Shillong in October 2018 and will be responsible for conducting the Regional Conference on Radio Science (RCRS) in future.
